Hi Kerstin, I enjoyed so much about the history in Colorado and New Mexico. I am so amazed about the beautiful red rocks around the mountain and adobes in Colorado and New Mexico. Thank you so much for the trip. Marilyn |
Hi Kerstin, Thanks for planning such a wonderful trip! I enjoyed the rides on the three historic steam trains, winding through breathtaking mountain vistas, especially the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge train, following a wildly flowing river through the San Juan National Forest, learning about the old silver mines and also the natural history. The last day's highlight: going all the way to the top of Pikes Peak! This trip gave us such a wide variety of sights: from the views of a cosmopolitan city in Denver to the small well-preserved Western towns, where one can almost visualize a gun-fight breaking out and the lawman coming along to make things right. History from the 21st century to thousands of years ago, when we visit Mesa Verde National Park and saw the well-preserved dwellings and works of the ancient Pueblo people who had lived there then left. We made a connection to them when we visited the Taos Pueblo and learned about their culture. As a native New Englander (someone with an emotional connection to and familiarity with RI, CT, VT, NH , ME, MA) the oldest settled part of the USA) I appreciated my first in-depth tour of parts of the American West. It was late summer, but still the colors fascinated me: the yellow, reds and grays of mountain sides, pink and yellow adobe. I loved it all so much, I can hardly get it all in words! I enjoyed meeting new people, everyone was very friendly. My hat goes off to your four fantastic interpreters, who truly put their hearts and minds into making the tour truly impassible for all of us and to our tour guide Lisa for her patience, knowledge and flexibility. She seemed to be enjoying our trip as much as we did! And to Ken who drove us thousands of miles through Colorado and New Mexico--- and driving an empty bus to Durango so we could enjoy the train trip. No one could have done better! And you are the genius behind all this, making everything go so flawlessly. I miss your smile already. Take care and wishing you all best, Anne |
