Deaf Cruise Italy & Croatia
October 30 - November 12, 2008

Florence	Since our cruise started in Rome's cruise port Civitavecchia, some of us decided to arrive at the Eternal City three days prior to the cruise departure. That allowed us to discover this exciting city during several guided walking tours. After visiting most of the world famous sights in Rome, we embarked the Legend of the Seas. Our first port of call was Genova. From there, we traveled via bus to Portofino, one of the most beautiful ports on the Italian Riviera. Richard Burton once proposed to Elizabth Taylor here. The next stop was the port of Livorno, the gateway to Florence, Pisa, and Tuscany's vast wine country. Here we stayed for two nights. This extended stay allowed us to visit Florence, Lucca and Pisa. Pisa is most noted for its famous marble bell tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Messina was our port of call in Sicily. Messina is an ancient place with a fascinating history. We visited Mt. Etna where we also stoped for lunch. In the afternoon, we strolled through quaint Taormina. We then set sail for Croatia where we went by bus from the port of Split to the Ancient Salona and afterwards to the charming town of Trogir. Trogir impresses with its old city center and the narrow lanes and allees where shops and restaurants invite the tourists to linger. Venice was another highlight in our itinerary. We stayed in port for two nights. Most of us participated in the Secret Venice Walking Tour the first day. Because this beautiful city is connected by canals instead of streets, a good way to see Venice is during a walking tour or a gondola ride that we did the next day. But before we toured the canals via gondola, we went via boat to the famous island Murano. At a glass workshop we could see how the precious glass works are made. We stopped at the church San Giorgio on our way back to the city.	Venice
> View at Dubrovnik	Dubrovnik, Croatia, was established 1,300 years ago on the far Southern tip of the Dalmatian Coast. The city once rivaled Venice in terms of its importance. During a walking tour we passed marble-paved squares, monasteries, fountains and pitoresque buildings. Our last port of call was Naples. Some of us joined the tour Taste of Sorrento & Pompeii and others participated in the Island of Capri tour. On our way to either destination, we marveled the spectacular scenery of the southeren coast of Italy that attracts artists from around the world.
